Divercine Film Festival, Uruguay

June 5th, 2010

This year we are very happy to announce two good news: the first is that we will have Divercine in 9 cities in the interior of the country, with the same conditions as in the capital.

The second is that this year we will change theater and holidays in Montevideo. The festival will take part in spring, from September 20 to 25. At last but not least, we are preparing a workshop for Uruguayan professionals who have audiovisual projects that are children and youth-oriented, led by top technicians of international level. We will soon be able to confirm program, teachers, dates and requirements to take part in the project. All this within the framework of a commitment for the child´s audiovisual that we are ready to sign along with the authorities of the Government organizations and NGOs concerned about the culture of our children and young people.

Interaktivna interkulturalna medijska edukacija

March 1st, 2010

Read more…

Youth in Bosnia Telling their Own Stories

Children’s and Young People’s Participation

Jajce is a city in Bosnia & Herzegovina with rich historical and cultural life. Large and important historical events have taken place here such as events during the Roman Empire period, Bosnian state period, the Ottoman Empire; and the former communist Yugoslavia was “created” in Jajce, in November 1943.

The town suffered badly during the war, and the wounds have still not healed. The city now belongs to the Bosnian-Croat Federation in the Republic of Bosnia & Herzegovina (one of the two entities in the country, the other being the Republika Srpska) and it has mainly a Croatian and Muslim population. These groups returned to the town after the war in Bosnia during the 1990s, to devastation. During the war the city was part of Bosnian territory, until the Serb forces took over and expelled parts of the “non-Serb” population. Similar displacement occurred when the Bosnian and Croatian forces regained control of the city at the end of the war; therefore, not many Serbs have returned.

Serbia applies to join the Union

Serbian President Boris Tadic on 22 December handed his country’s EU membership application to Fredrik Reinfeldt, the Swedish prime minister, who accepted it on behalf of the EU Council presidency.

Tadic described it as a “historic day” for his country. “It is the tenth year of democratic life, ten years after the end of the war, ten years after the end of our isolation. During these ten years, our main goal has been to bring Serbia into the EU. Now we will continue with the reform work in the hope of becoming a full EU member in a few years’ time,” he said.

Olli Rehn, the outgoing European enlargement commissioner, welcomed the move, saying Tadic and his government had “worked hard to get to where they are today. Serbia has come from a nationalist past to a European future and I can speak on behalf of the entire European Commission when I say we are looking forward to working with you to advance your cause.”

The next step in Belgrade’s application process will be for the Council to discuss the issue and decide when to ask the European Commission to prepare an opinion on Serbia’s preparedness for membership.
